Minimum Qualifications :

  • 15+ years of relevant soils/concrete laboratory and technical experience
  • 3+ years of lab management experience (preferred)

    • Asphalt Roadway Specialist – Level 1B

Job Summary
B2Z Engineering is seeking a dynamic and experienced Interim Laboratory Manager / Senior Materials Testing Technician for our Certified Geotechnical & Construction Materials Testing Lab in Seguin, TX. The successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of the lab, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of geotechnical and materials testing in accordance with company policies and client specifications. This includes managing asphalt, concrete, and advanced geotechnical testing while providing support to engineers in geotechnical design, materials consulting, and construction inspections.

The role includes supervising and mentoring lab staff, ensuring safety protocols are followed, reviewing and summarizing test results, and maintaining high-quality standards. The Interim Laboratory Manager / Senior Materials Testing Technician will also interact with clients, contractors, and local officials and be responsible for project tracking, cost monitoring, and ensuring timely deliverables.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and oversee laboratory testing and daily operations, including staff training and performance reviews
  • Ensure all testing procedures meet client specifications and industry standards
  • Review, analyze, and summarize test results for engineers’ analysis
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure it is properly calibrated
  • Oversee the preparation of reports and other documentation
  • Work with engineers and contractors to track project progress and resolve technical issues
  • Lead safety initiatives and promote a safe working environment
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in the laboratory’s quality and service standards
  • Coordinate and manage technicians for local assignments
  • Maintain communication with other laboratory locations to ensure consistency and efficiency.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and organize large data sets efficiently
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory certifications and accreditations
  • Expertise in construction materials, methods, and engineering calculations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and related documents
  • Experience in supervising staff and ensuring the timely delivery of work products
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and quality improvement

Preferred Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MetaField (preferred), SiteManager, and other lab reporting software

Summary
B2Z Engineering is currently looking for a Construction Materials Technician to join our team in Houston, TX and Beaumont, Tx. As a Construction Materials Technician, you will conduct construction materials laboratory testing under the guidance of the lab supervisor or department manager. Your responsibilities will include performing compressive/flexural strength testing of concrete, conducting laboratory compaction characteristics of soil (proctor) testing, soil classifications, aggregate gradations, inputting laboratory data, documenting laboratory quality procedures, and calibrating equipment. Additionally, you will assist in soil, concrete, and asphalt testing on project sites. This role involves working and communicating with contractors, supervisors, subordinates, local officials, and the public.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. 1. Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are essential for this role.
    2. The ability to efficiently organize and manage large volumes of data is crucial to provide prompt
    responses to inquiries.
    3. Obtain relevant laboratory certifications and accreditations as required.
    4. Ensure the upkeep of laboratory facilities and regularly calibrate equipment.
    5. Support engineers as needed and fulfill additional tasks as assigned.
    6. Possess knowledge of construction plans, specifications, and standards, as well as accepted
    construction practices, materials, methods, and equipment.
    7. Demonstrate proficiency in reading and comprehending construction plans and related
    documents.
    8. Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines, actively contributing to a safe work environment.
    9. Advocate for and engage in continuous quality monitoring and improvement of laboratory
    operations, including monitoring quality standards.
    10. Assist higher-level technicians or staff professionals under close supervision, performing basic
    testing and observational duties.
    11. Communicate information to the Project Manager, discussing the accuracy of data in preparation
    for submission.
    12. Maintain quality standards across all projects.
    13. Safely operate company vehicles to designated locations for sample collection.
    14. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Requirements:
